OVH Hosting has incredibly good service!
Can't really say anything negative about the service of OVH Hosting. Yesterday my server crashed without any trace of why. An hour later it was back up and running after OVH techs did a manual disk check and hard reset direct from the server rack.

Today it crashed again the same way. This time it took half an hour to get it back online and that included a motherboard replacement! Apparently something on the MB had gone way of the Dodo.

Data and ways to store / move it around
Had this a long time coming, but it's finally done!

More safety and centralisation for my data & backups with a NAS box. Specifically this one: Asustor AS-204T with 4 Western Digital 2TB RED drives.

Only thing I still need is to upgrade my LAN to Gigabit, because holy HELL it's slow to move data over a 100Mb LAN...

New host after some difficulties
So, some background... Last summer UrgentVPS went from "real" virtualmachines to cloudbased VMs. At first things were ok and everything worked nicely. Then around October last year the problems started to crop up, latency / network problems, general site slowness, etc. Then in November the first total blackout outage that lasted for 3 days and guess what, Urgent never explained what happened.

Also, the change from true VMs to cloud VMs meant they priced their services anew, meaning a price hike and then later another as they added the VAT, so in 6 months the price of my cheap VM went to "not so cheap" and had worse service quality to boot.

From there things went just downhill, so I started searching for a new host and ended up renting a true dedicated server from OVH for almost the same price I paid for Urgent for a lot less capable VM. If you really are searching for your own server, I really can't recommend UrgentVPS for anyone anymore.

Go to http://www.kimsufi.ie/ and check the KS series 2G.

Vacation, migration, forgetting things
So, my VPS hoster UrgentVPS started their migration on the weekend I went on vacation. No big deal there, I had everything backed up what needed to be backed up, just that... I forgot to take the data WITH me when I went on. Cue a week forward and Urgent gets my new VPS container up, so I did the needed thing and installed postfix + courierimap + squirrelmail, rewriting postfix main.cf settings from memory.

Today after getting back home it was literally a 5 minute job to upload the other backups and install needed software.

Changes, changes...
So, since I've had my own Virtual Private Server (VPS for short) for a while, I thought about this domain and decided that it's pointless to pay for webhosting for it if I can move it to the VPS.

Cue one mail to webhoster a month or so ago to tell 'em I'm moving out to set the "wheels" in motion. Then last week I initiated the domain transfer and moved the site in to the VPS and today the domain was finally transfered. And here we are six or so hours later in the new home for hauta.org \o/

The Old, The Dead and The New
So, The Old and Dead: GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB , G80 core , almost exactly 4 years of life, I shall miss you my trusty workhorse.

How did it die? Old age most likely, started crashing in 3D apps like games and then in windows desktop too. Pretty sure it was dead, but salvaged an old 80GB HDD and installed fresh Windows 7 Ultimate on it just to be sure. And sure enough, 15 minutes after installation of drivers: crashycrashy.

The New: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 768MB

Took a week to get a new card but now it's in and O.M.G. this thing ROCKS! Sure it's like 3 generations younger than my old one so decent boost in performance is expected but shit... This thing leaves those old 8800's so far behind that it's ridiculous.

So far I'm pretty damn impressed with this beast. I hope it'll hold out atleast the 2 years it has warranty.
